Working again with Ted Hutt, the same producer who helped them shape The '59 Sound, the bandmates wrote and recorded the songs that eventually comprised their third album, American Slang. The Gaslight Anthem rounded out the year by playing additional festivals - including Lollapalooza, Pinkpop, Reading, and Leeds - before returning to the studio in early 2010. Featuring a rough, rousing sound that took its cues from Social Distortion's melodic punk and Bruce Springsteen's heartland rock, the album found an audience not only in America - where eMusic deemed it the number one record of 2008 - but also in Europe, where Springsteen himself joined the musicians during their set at the 2009 Glastonbury festival.ДЇollowing the Glastonbury performance, sales of The '59 Sound grew by 200%, whetting the public's demand for a follow-up. The Gaslight Anthem signed with Side One Dummy and released their sophomore effort, The '59 Sound, later that year. The EP appeared in early 2008, as did an offer to join the roster of the California-based indie label Side One Dummy. The band managed to secure enough down time between tour dates to record a four-song EP, SeГ±or and the Queen, in Austin.

The increasing popularity was enough to score gigs with the likes of Against Me! and the Draft, and by the end of 2007, The Gaslight Anthem had played over 200 shows. Arriving in May 2007 via the local imprint XOXO Records, the album garnered accolades from punk zines and blogs alike. The band - comprised of vocalist/guitarist Brian Fallon, bassist Alex Levine, drummer Benny Horowitz, and guitarist Alex Rosamilia - began establishing a hometown audience after forming in 2005, and their soulful punk rock attracted wider attention upon the release of their first full-length album, Sink or Swim. The Gaslight Anthem rose out of the fertile punk scene of New Brunswick, NJ, flaunting a unique style that melded the influence of Bruce Springsteen, Wilson Pickett, and various Motown groups with the rough, emotional grit of Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker. The Gaslight Anthem has announced a Dublin show at The National Stadium on 23 rd August 2022. In March 2022 the band announced a small string of dates around the UK in summer.The Gaslight Anthem Announce Belfast & Dublin Show Only a year after the release of their fifth album Get Hurt, The Gaslight Anthem announced an indefinite hiatus - though in 2018 they performed a small bunch of shows to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The '59 Sound. ''45'', the album's cathartic opener, reached No.1 in the UK Rock & Metal charts. In 2011 the band signed a major record deal with Mercury to release their fourth album, Handwritten, released a year later and debuting at No.3 in the Billboard 200.

The Boss wasn't the only influence on the New Jersey outfit, with Fallon citing the likes of The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton as influences for their third studio-album, American Slang.

Reaching another huge milestone, in 2008 The Gaslight Anthem performed with their idol and major influence Bruce Springsteen at Glastonbury and in Hyde Park.

The mainstream music media soon cottoned on, and for the release of their sophomore LP The '59 Sound the band made rock history by being the first to grace the Kerrang! cover without having ever featured in the magazine previously - itself indicative of their roaming global popularity. Their debut full-length, Sink or Swim, featuring the likes of 'We Came To Dance' and 'Boomboxes and Dictionaries', quickly earnt high praise on the blogosphere. Having played together in various bands previously, lead singer and rhythm guitarist Brian Fallon, bassist Alex Levine, drummer Benny Horowitz and lead guitarist Alex Rosamilia began gigging in and around New Brunswick in 2006 as The Gaslight Anthem. The Gaslight Anthem arrived on the scene in 2007 with their debut album Sink or Swim, updating the heartland rock of their native New Jersey with a grittier, punk rock and a strong propensity for anthemic hooks. Ten years on from their Top Ten album Handwritten, The Gaslight Anthem are back, announcing dates in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham for August 2022.
